Take Care With Baby Medications

Whenever your baby needs medication you need to be careful that you only give the precise dose as recommended by your doctor. Although older children and grownups could possibly be fine with a 'give or take' measurement, dosages for a baby must be precise.

With a baby being so much smaller you need to be aware that only a small variance in the dose can have a dramatic effect on the results. Incremental changes in the weight of your little one can greatly impact the dosage of medication prescribed by your physician.

It's important to use the measuring device that came with the medication in order to administer the correct dosage. If you didn't receive one along with your medication, be certain to buy one that provides precise measurements.

Don't give doses based on a teaspoon, as the size of teaspoons can vary greatly. This can greatly increase the risk of administering more medication than is necessary or safe for your baby. Even worse, you might be administering a dosage that will cause more harm than good to your baby.

You should also never make your own judgment on the amount of medication that your child needs. This can endanger your child's health without you realizing it. Check with your baby's physician if you're uncertain.

If you're considering using natural treatments, remember that they can sometimes be very powerful. Even though they are natural, they might not be completely safe for your baby. Natural remedies will affect your baby much differently than they would a grownup, and might even cause severe health problems.

Unfortunately there are far too many people who don't have the necessary knowledge to give you the best advice when selling these 'natural' products. All too often, they are unknowingly risking the health of the individual who uses the product. So once again always seek professional advice before using natural products for your baby.

While your baby is still in the early stages of development, you should only heed the advice of medical professionals. A baby can get to a critical stage of sickness very rapidly. It isn't worth the risk of using medication that could have a negative effect on your little one's health.
